Can retail service providers refuse services to paying convicted felons?

Can a retail service provider, like a photographer or a self-storage facility, refuse to allow convicted felons access to their services? Is an application questionaire illegal/unconstitutional if it asks the felon question before they accept any payment or make a contract?

1. Yes, retail services can refuse service to anyone, unless they are discriminating because of race, religion, origin, or some other social factor. Criminal records are not covered under discrimination laws. As far as the US Constitution, that protects people from the government. It does not protect you from a private business.
2. People tend to forget that businesses are privately owned and as such have the right to refuse service to anyone, unless it is for federally protected reasons. As far as the question about the application, that is a bit deeper in the civil side, so I will not make an unqualified guess.
3. yes, the owner has a right to refuse services to any one. Unless it's violates age or discriminates because of race or religion.
