Changing broadband provider and payments help?

I moved from Orange to BT Broadband and my Orange billing date is at the start of every month. My BT contract starts on the 8th December 2009 does that mean my Orange Broadband service ends same time and I do not owe them any subscription payments thereafter are do I have to pay for this whole month too?

  1. Your Orange billing ends at the end of December. Whether you go to BT, move to the moon or never use the internet again has nothing to do with your Orange contract. If you haven't notified Orange to cancel yet, do it tomorrow. Buying a contract with BT doesn't cancel your Orange contract - Orange probably have no idea that you're going to BT. And they'll continue to bill you (and you'll continue to be legally obligated to pay them) until you get a written notice (or at least send them one with a postal return notice that they received it) that you want to cancel. So call them and ask for written acknowledgment from them. If you don't hear by December 21, send them written notice, 2 copies, with a return (stamped) envelope, and room for a signature from them, acknowledging that they are aware of the cancellation. Just to keep them honest, so they can't later claim that you owe them for 6 months, and you never canceled. (If it's not in writing it didn't happen - any judge will tell you that.)
